THIS GROUP IS PAUSED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE
Do you enjoy listening to stories? Do you enjoy telling them? If so, Oral History is for you!
Passing stories down from one generation to the next by word of mouth or in songs is the first way that human memories were captured – the very earliest form of history! Do you have memories of your early life or of stories told to you by older family members? Do you wish you had taken more notice at the time? If so, come along and find out how to make sure those tales do not vanish for ever.
The Oral History group meets on the 2nd and 4th Fridays of the month at 10am in the Lower Room at The Methodist Church.
PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS GROUP HAS NOW PAUSED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE.
Sometimes we have people come as guests to share their memories, for example of being a physiotherapist to Team GB athletes or being a Ranger in the National Park, the scope is immense. At other meetings we take a theme such as Going to the doctors/dentist when an informal chat reveals rich seams of changing times.
We record interviews both within and beyond meetings and the hand-held equipment can be borrowed by members who wish to make their own recordings independently. Many of our recordings are now lodged at The Derbyshire Record Office and indeed our recordings were used in the Listening Bench in the Tourist Information Office, pre Covid. If you have visited The Crescent Experience we also feature in there!
If you want to know more about the group, please contact Anne Rogerson by clicking on her name at the top of this page.
