The Travel Group met again on Friday 10th April with the main feature being a member’s recent visit to Mexico.
This was a 16-night package tour with Ffestiniog Travel and, as the name suggests, involved mainly travelling by
train. Due to civil unrest, the itinerary had to be rearranged. This did not distract from the trip. In fact, our traveler
felt it added to it with the group visiting far more interesting places, chugging through mountains, enjoying views
above the clouds.
They visited Los Mochis on the Bay of California to watch dolphins, the Copper Canyon, deeper in places than
the more famous Grand Canyon but much wider and formed by a tectonic plate. Also on the trip were two nights
in Mexico City which was being painted ready for the football World Cup and Bacalar lake on the Yucatan
Peninsula where the meteor landed and got rid of the dinosaurs.
Also included was the walled City of Cartagena built to protect locals from pirates such as Francis Drake. It is
now a world heritage site.
The discussion topic was luggage - reducing the amount you take, how to pack and checking what you can and
can’t take as carry-on baggage.
