Buxton u3a Recorder Group got off to a successful start on October 5th. It meets twice a month on Monday afternoons from 2.00-3.30pm, in the Methodist Church Upper Room.   Future dates for the first term are November 2^nd and 16^th, December 7^th and 21^st.   It is led by Esme Upcott and Carol Bowns, who are experienced both in recorder playing and in leading musical groups.

Descant, treble, tenor and bass recorder players are all welcome.  As anticipated, we have a slight shortage of treble, tenor and bass players at the moment, but our descants are sounding great. There are a few spare recorders available if you want to try a different sized instrument.  The emphasis is on playing musically - together, in time and in tune, remembering to breathe and, most importantly, having fun in the process.   Don’t worry if you haven’t played since school days – whilst you do need to be able to read music, pieces have been arranged to suit all levels and we aim to make sure that everyone feels supported.  It's never too late to dig your old school recorder out of the loft and start getting reacquainted.    Or are you already a confident player in search of a group?   Come for a trial session and see if you like it.    You can join at any time, but please bring your own print-out of the music, which you can find in the link below.

You will need to bring a music stand; again a couple of spares will be available, and a drink.   We play music by Medieval, Renaissance, Baroque, Classical and contemporary composers covering a wide range of genres.
